OTOP to be on JETRO's website
BANGKOK, Nov 25 (TNA) - The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) is helping promote Thai products under the government's one tambon, one product (OTOP) scheme, including showcasing the products on its website, and designing new packagings for the goods, according to Deputy Commerce Minister Pongsak Ruktapongpisal.
Pongsak told TNA after meeting JETRO's President, Mr. Atsuo Kuroda, here yesterday that with JETRO's support as the authorized distributor of OTOP in the Japanese market, demand for the Thai community products had been on the rise among Japanese consumers.
"This can be witnessed by high prices offered for some OTOP. For example, ladies' rattan bags from the eastern province of Chonburi are being sold as high as Bt25,000 each in the Japanese market, about five times higher than their prices in the domestic market", he noted.
He conceded, however, that packagings of OTOP needed to be improved to be more attractive in overseas markets.
"I have, therefore, asked JETRO to help design new packagings for the Thai community products to meet modern Japanese consumers' tastes", he disclosed.
Pongsak said that JETRO would also expand its promotional strategies for OTOP, including developing new webpage to specially showcase the Thai community products. (TNA)--E002
